So in order to have multiple of them actually produced them in this first batch also. ![]() ![]() So luckily, I brought the testing that I had been testing with at home kind of as a golden and so we were switching switching between that and one that had just come off the line. And just went to the testing was seated it wasn't seated quite right. I think some of it was just like, it's using a high density DF 40 connector by hairos. And I actually don't remember what the bug with that was, but we definitely had one. We first tested just one of the mod boards was like the ones that you expand or put on top. Yeah, and unblock you rather than like, playing phone tag or email tags. So if it happens to like, throw an exception or something, I wanted to be here so I could fix it. So I wanted to be here to make sure that if it's the testing is Python code. And but we made like 81 of the control boards and macro fab. And the boards are different, right? Like I was only using, like either the single prototype I had macro fab produced before, or some of my hand soldered prototypes from before that. The thing I was worried about most was making sure the test jig actually ran as it ran in my house, right? Because it's a different computer different setup. And I think you were working on your, your test fixture. Yeah, weĪctually were building them yesterday today, right? Mm hmm. Which I was down here to see get produced. So I was really happy when I like finally put the money down for that first major order. And macro fab and Brandon, specifically have been really great and super helpful. Yeah, that's been a real growth point from for working with macro fab has been talking a lot with Brandon, the customer, customer guy and saying, like, Oh, what about this or that? And he's like, well, not many people do that. So my because it's a platform, I'm doing a total of 13 different designs of this first run between the boards that hold the microcontroller, and then all of the other boards that you can use, you can expand your functionality And maybe six months ago now, when I was still doing all of the different designs that I've been doing. So what brought you down here to Houston? Well, IĬame down here to visit macro fam. So yeah, um, Scott, you you grew up in the northwest, you actually from Seattle, right? So Iĭecided to do I like quadcopters Yeah, theyįly in the bush, in the bushes and in the trees and stuff. Well, you know, what's the meaning behind the name?Ĭhickadees a bird that's native to the northwest. I've been looking at all those like, the new top level domains. And then like most people who come up to you in the park, I like it was at a drone. Yeah, but there's, there's lots of other types to like, try copters. Yeah, like a big banner on the top of your webpage? Quad? Yeah, I think I think that's what we should we should call it from here on out. So Arduino compatible space is the appropriate term.Ĭool. But hopefully, branching out into the Arduino space also. And it's a modular flight control system, primarily for quad copters. So what I'm working on is this system called poly stack. And he started a company called chickadee. So this is a Scott shockcraft Yeah, um, he is a ex Googler. I'm your guest, Scott shockcraft of chickadee. While selling hardware for a loss isn't uncommon for video game consoles, the Xbox relied on an unusually large number of bespoke components bought from manufacturers at prices that were fixed by contract, so it was difficult to cut costs down the line. One of the reasons for Microsoft's rather aggressive use of Revenue-Enhancing Devices was because the system had very high manufacturing costs. They also charged extra for the DVD remote/IR sensor kit which was required to play DVDs (a free feature on the PlayStation 2 if you didn't want the remote, though this is because of the DVD's licensing fees the Nintendo GameCube and Dreamcast both lacked DVD playback due to their differing formats), and even with the kit could only play discs locked to the same region as the Xbox. Does that mean you can encrypt or decrypt files at only one cloud storage service or offline location? Not at all. Maintaining multiple encrypted drives for freeĪnyone who purchases BoxCryptor Unlimited can run multiple BoxCryptor virtual drives simultaneously, whereas users of the free version are limited to a single virtual drive. If you move or delete it, you won’t be able to decrypt your files. That file holds the configuration key for decrypting your files. If you do, however, be careful not to move or delete the encfs6.xml file. Since both the encrypting and the decrypting occur on BoxCryptor’s virtual drive, you’ll likely have no reason to wander into the BoxCryptor.bc folder stored in your cloud drive. An iOS app is available as well, but it works only with Dropbox. BoxCryptor also offers an Android app for accessing encrypted SkyDrive, Google Drive, and Dropbox files after you enter your BoxCryptor password. This arrangement makes accessing your files on the road a bit of a hassle, but even the free version of BoxCryptor allows you to reach cloud-stored encrypted folders, assuming that you have both BoxCryptor and your cloud service’s desktop client installed on your PC. If you try to snag your files directly through the BoxCryptor.bc folder they’ll remain encrypted, and you won’t be able to read them. Similarly, the only way to unencrypt your files is to withdraw them via the same virtual drive. Doing so will also make them appear in your cloud storage folder in encrypted form.īoxCryptor creates a virtual drive that resides alongside your physical drives. Instead, deposit your files in BoxCryptor’s virtual drive (S:, in my case). If you simply drag files into the BoxCryptor.bc folder that the software creates in your cloud storage directory, the files won’t be encrypted. After you choose the destination folder, enter a name for the BoxCryptor folder that you’re creating. ![]() Most cloud storage services create a local directory in C:/Users/* UserName by default. You can choose an offline local folder as the destination if you like but BoxCryptor’s big draw is that it works with any cloud storage service that creates a local directory on your PC, including the desktop clients for Dropbox, Google Drive, SkyDrive, and Sugar Sync. The next screen will ask you to choose a location for the encrypted folder. Once you have it, double-click the file to start the installation wizard, and then choose Create a new BoxCryptor folder. Passwords: You just can’t live without ’em. The first step in setting up BoxCryptor is to figure out how to download the right program from the BoxCryptor website. The Business license is the same as the Unlimited Personal license, but it includes a legal clause that allows you to use it in the workplace. Upgrading to the Unlimited Personal version introduces multiple virtual drives, so you can access several encrypted folders simultaneously it also lets you encrypt file names, not just file contents. The free version, which should suffice for many people, permits you to operate a single virtual hard disk for encrypting and decrypting files. Free Android and iPhone apps are also available. Which version of BoxCryptor is right for you?īoxCryptor is available in three editions: a free version, a $40 Unlimited Personal version, and a $100 Unlimited Business version. I’ll get into those after discussing the differences between the various BoxCryptor offerings and outlining how to get the encryption software up and running. Setting up BoxCryptor is fairly painless, but the service has a few subtleties that could throw you for a loop. As a result, your files remain unreadable to outsiders even if hackers manage to steal your password or otherwise breach your cloud storage provider’s defenses. BoxCryptor encrypts and decrypts your files locally, and it doesn’t transmit your password to third parties. |
